My latest endeavor involves a pattern that can theoretically continue indefinitely and a ONE POUND skein of yarn… I’m either gonna end up with the most epic shawl ever, or some wicked hand cramps.
Well, I have found a new pet project. Knitting/crocheting hats for service members overseas. My Oma told me about it, and the pattern is super fast–I can make a hat (crocheted) in about an hour and a half, which is the length of my classes at school. :) Perfect!! I’m hoping I can make a ton of them, because it’s super easy, and it is for a good cause. Here’s a link to the website, where you can also find the pattern(s).
Sorry it’s been so long. School started, and put a damper on crafting, as well as just about everything else. Two AP classes=TONS of homework. Since the strawberry key chains I have also done watermelon slices, but I’m not quite happy with how they’ve come out. I made up the pattern myself, because I couldn’t find one, and I think I know why I couldn’t-it’s really hard!! I still love the strawberrries. So, I have also been (slowly) working on my huge sweater, and last night my hand was cramping again. Not fun… My tank top is also coming alng nicely. Still looks like a blob, but I might post a pic anyways so you can see the pattern. I wore the grey one I made the other day, and got quite a few comments on it. :D
So, I’d say the most exciting thing that has happen recently is Mameshiba. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, take a few minutes to watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL48UFJN3h8&feature=youtube_gdata_player . You will thank me!! Anyways, I have decided that it is my new mission in life to try and make one of each. There are twenty. I’m not sure if I can, but I’m going to try. I don’t know how I’ll do the glasses, but I’ll worry about that when I get there. For now, I started number one, the green pea, but I need more 6mm eyes, so I’m stuck. I ordered some, as well as cell phone charm straps. I’m going to make these guys not phone charms!! Stay updated, because I’m going to be posting some in Etsy as soon as I can.
Outside of crafting, I have some exciting news. My sister, my best friend, and I all auditioned for the after school play, Sylvia. (link to Wikipedia page: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_(play) ) And there are only four female roles. So… WE ALL MADE IT!! I couldn’t believe it. Now I’m going to have even less time, but it is so worth it!!
Well, that’s about it. My classes are all really fun, and I am starting to prepare for college applications… Sort of. :) I’ll check back in soon, I hope.
Well, I had to go to school today to get my tentative schedule and turn in various forms. As a bonus, I got to see all my friends again!! Well, not all, but quite a few. It makes me excited to start school again, as weird as that sounds. But, true to my teenage nature, I went to the pool with my best friend after. We might as well make the best of summer while it lasts!! Tomorrow I take my senior pictures, and Tuesday is the official start of school year 2011-2012.
On a craftier note, I have started construction on a crocheted tank top. It’s dark blue, with dark blue stripes. Ok, you kinda need to see it. I’ll post pictures soon, when it looks like more than a rectangular blob. But to get there, I seriously need some sleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzz…
I decided to crochet the most adorable baby Buckbeak for my friend’s birthday. She’s a huge Harry Potter fan, and I think she’ll love him! The only reason I can bear to part with him is that I know he’s going to a good home. ^_^ Here’s a link to the pattern: http://bandotaku.deviantart.com/art/Hippogriff-Amigurumi-Pattern-214637614
Honestly, YOU SHOULD MAKE ONE. I want to make another one. They are so freaking adorable. I will post pictures tomorrow. For now, Season 9 Project Runway, HERE I COME!!!
Well, I don’t know if anyone actually reads this, but if you do, I am still alive. I have family visiting from out of town, so it’s been crazy. :) But I love it!!
Anyways, I love summer for many reasons, #1 being MORE FREE TIME!!! Which means that on top of more knitting/crocheting, I have had more reading time. AWESOME!!! My sister and mother both devoured The Hunger Games, and so did I. All three books in 7 days. :D (I didn’t come up for air very often.) That series is incredible. If you haven’t read them yet, GO READ THEM!!! I strongly advise getting all three at once, because you can’t stop reading. I swear, those books are addictive.
But I haven’t been only reading. I’ve also crocheted a few hand grenades. I really like how they are coming out!! I’ll post pics soon.
My sweater has come to a standstill. It is WAY too hot, and I’m not quite sure about my finger. Oh well! I’ll finish eventually…
I did crochet another scarf for the SO. ^_^ I did it lengthwise-it took forever to finish a row!! We’ll see how long it takes before I decide that’s a good idea again.
Well, I think I’ve waited to knit about as long as I can, and I REALLY want to finish this darn super-bulky sweater, so… I’m knitting again. Kind of regretting it too, because it is 71 degrees and muggy outside, and I have what is basically a blanket on my lap. :( Not fun, but I want to finish this thing. But, during my crochet-only phase, I came up with a pretty cool pattern for a knitted handgrenade. So I might postpone knitting some more and just work on that. We’ll see…
So, along with my thumb fiasco, I have also developed what I can only call a knitting callus. It’s on my left ring finger, and is getting sore. I finished knitting my octopus (from one of my all time FAVORITE books, Amigurumi Knits by Hansi Singh), and decided to take a break from knitting. I’ll stick to crocheting for awhile.
On another note, I’m considering whether or not to sign up for Craftsy’s online class for fitting knit sweaters and such. I have the book (Fitted Knits by Stefanie Japel) so I might just use that. Either way, I hope I learn something new!!
Well, I’m not sure if my hand is better yet, so I’m sticking to really small projects. I’ve crocheted two octopi, and am currently knitting one more. So far my thumb has cooperated, but I’m a bit worried about working on my sweater again. I might wait a day or two more before I continue working on it.
Well, I finished my granny-square scarf, and I’m in the muddle if knitting two others. One has narrow vertical stripes, the other wide, horizontal ones. :) (I had to get more yarn…) It feels awesome to make something and know it’s going to make someone else really happy.
Update: here’s a photo (or two) of my first scarf!!
