Thank goodness, the ‘new’ yarn was not drastically different from the original, so I was able to finish my sweater. It is alpaca, and ridiculously soft. It was wonderful to knit up–not only because it was soft, but it was a fairly quick knit. I probably would have finished it a lot sooner if there hadn’t been that yarn snafu, so don’t use me as a judge of how long it would take to make. :) I add rows to the sleeves to make them longer. At the bottom of this post are some photos of the finished sweater. I show details of the cables and the increasing/decreasing in the back.
Also, I finally finished my whale!! It ended up being 32″ long. He is wonderfully huggable. I really liked this pattern, and if if wasn’t so huge I’d probably make another one. Here’s the website for the pattern ( http://becbrittain.com/blog/hazel-the-humpback/ ) and, of course, some photos.
I’m working on a wonderfully soft sweater, and it was coming along quickly and beautifully–until I ran out of yarn. O.o And yes, there was a dye lot. I tried to order more of the same dye lot, but I’m not exactly sure where I got the yarn originally, so I ended up buying a different dye lot. I’m not sure how different it is–sometimes it looks the same, sometimes it looks completely different. It is going to be at the end of the sleeves, and I’m thinking if I do it evenly on both sides, it will be okay. :/ This is a knitters worst nightmare!! Oh well. I can only cross my fingers and hope for the best.
On an entirely different note, I’ve been meaning to add another pattern to my Etsy shop. Any suggestions for what I should do a pattern of? Is there anything you’ve been searching for, but just can’t find? If your suggestion gets chosen, you get a 50% discount on the pattern. And I might pick more than one… Leave any suggestions in the comments. : ) Thank you!!
I finally finished that striped sweater that I have been working on!! This definitely was not my speediest project, but I am proud of it nonetheless. Here are some photos of the finished product:
I’ll miss this project, but I can move on to other sweaters now. I’ve started one with cables in a wonderfully soft alpaca. I can’t wait to wear it!! It is quite hairy though–after working on it for a few minutes, it looks like I own a beige cat. (*^_^*)
I hope you had a wonderful and safe New Year’s. I sure did–I was knitting while waiting for midnight. I found and adapted an excellent pattern for fingerless gloves, possibly my favorite ever. I’ve made four pairs already, and I’m on my fifth. They are super fast and fairly simple.
I also came up with a crochet pattern for a baby dragon, fitting perfectly with the beginning of the year of the dragon. Here’s a photo of the two I’ve made:
I’m thinking of putting the pattern on Etsy, so there can be lots of baby dragons roaming around. :D
Anyways, school starts up again tomorrow. I’ll once again be swamped with homework. Hopefully I’ll still have time to create some cool stuff. I’m still working on that striped sweater…I just need buttons. :) I’m excited to finally be able to wear it, because I feel like I’ve been working on it forever. Good thing it’s been a fun process.
Okay, it’s my friends birthday tomorrow, and she loves cats. So, I’m making her a beanie with cat ears/face!! It’ll be super cute. I’ll post photos when I’m done. :D
In other news, my never ending sweater is ALMOST DONE!! I’m working on the neckband. Then, only the button bands/buttons till I’m done!! So excited.
Also, my school is starting a cafe on campus, and they want to sell my beanies. ^_^ I’m going to be a business person!! I’m freaking out a little bit, but it’s all good. I’ll compose myself.
Anyways, lots of exciting stuff going on!! Hope you have an awesome day.
I was really excited to start the construction of my armadillo, when I realized the head is way too small. I guess I was only increasing/decreasing, and forgot the plain knit rows in between. So, I redid the head, which means I have to also redo the ears, because I already sewed them on. I’m starting to run out of yarn, but I don’t want to buy more for one ear. I’m doing my best to use every inch I have left!!
In other news, I’m waiting for the supplies I ordered on Etsy to come. It’s kind of like waiting for Christmas, except I already know what I’m going to get.
I’m slowly making progress with my tank top and sweater as well. The sweater is almost becoming tedious, and the tank top is just crazy–it’s pretty tight, but I have to try it on all the time, because I’m making up the pattern. Yikes. But I am determined to finish both projects…eventually.
Sorry it’s been so long. School started, and put a damper on crafting, as well as just about everything else. Two AP classes=TONS of homework. Since the strawberry key chains I have also done watermelon slices, but I’m not quite happy with how they’ve come out. I made up the pattern myself, because I couldn’t find one, and I think I know why I couldn’t-it’s really hard!! I still love the strawberrries. So, I have also been (slowly) working on my huge sweater, and last night my hand was cramping again. Not fun… My tank top is also coming alng nicely. Still looks like a blob, but I might post a pic anyways so you can see the pattern. I wore the grey one I made the other day, and got quite a few comments on it. :D
So, I’d say the most exciting thing that has happen recently is Mameshiba. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, take a few minutes to watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL48UFJN3h8&feature=youtube_gdata_player . You will thank me!! Anyways, I have decided that it is my new mission in life to try and make one of each. There are twenty. I’m not sure if I can, but I’m going to try. I don’t know how I’ll do the glasses, but I’ll worry about that when I get there. For now, I started number one, the green pea, but I need more 6mm eyes, so I’m stuck. I ordered some, as well as cell phone charm straps. I’m going to make these guys not phone charms!! Stay updated, because I’m going to be posting some in Etsy as soon as I can.
Outside of crafting, I have some exciting news. My sister, my best friend, and I all auditioned for the after school play, Sylvia. (link to Wikipedia page: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_(play) ) And there are only four female roles. So… WE ALL MADE IT!! I couldn’t believe it. Now I’m going to have even less time, but it is so worth it!!
Well, that’s about it. My classes are all really fun, and I am starting to prepare for college applications… Sort of. :) I’ll check back in soon, I hope.
Well, I think I’ve waited to knit about as long as I can, and I REALLY want to finish this darn super-bulky sweater, so… I’m knitting again. Kind of regretting it too, because it is 71 degrees and muggy outside, and I have what is basically a blanket on my lap. :( Not fun, but I want to finish this thing. But, during my crochet-only phase, I came up with a pretty cool pattern for a knitted handgrenade. So I might postpone knitting some more and just work on that. We’ll see…
Well, I’m not sure if my hand is better yet, so I’m sticking to really small projects. I’ve crocheted two octopi, and am currently knitting one more. So far my thumb has cooperated, but I’m a bit worried about working on my sweater again. I might wait a day or two more before I continue working on it.
I’m currently working on a sweater that uses super bulky yarn and size 11 needles. I think I’m crazy, because it’s heading towards summer, and it is KILLING my fingers working with such thick yarn for so long. I’ve never really worried about carpal tunnel before, but now… :( I have to stretch my fingers regularly. Also, I’m working it in 5 row stripes. Unfortunately, the increases are every 6 rows. Let’s just say I’ve had a lot of miscounting/undoing. But it still look pretty cool so far! We shall see how it comes out. ^_^
